Capacity Planning
Overview
Managing capacity availability and utilisation is a key task in ensuring resources are effectively utilised to maintain the required inventory levels and that sufficient capacity is available to support forecast demand over the mid to long-term horizon.

HMS has developed an automated Rough-Cut Capacity Planning solution that integrates with the demand forecast and item routing data to produce a rolling 52-week line level capacity demand plan where line availability can be managed to support the inventory policy.

The solution also provides management reporting for line availability requirements and inventory balance both at item and pallet level.

Capacity is typically reviewed through a Rough Cut Capacity Plan (RCCP) model over a rolling 52 week horizon incorporating forecast demand and operational availability.

The RCCP provides executive level information of capacity constraints and opportunities, production line and labour requirements and the projected inventory levels in selling units/value. The inventory projection is also aggregate to pallet level to project warehousing requirements.

The output of the RCCP provides the criteria to support the Master Production Schedule (MPS) which in turn provides detailed plans to support optimised materials supply.
